Edwin McNamara Killed, Joyce Vanderburg Injured in Hutchinson County Crash on State Highway 136

Hutchinson County, Texas (September 3, 2022) – According to the Texas DPS, a man was killed Thursday afternoon in a motorcycle crash in Hutchinson County.

The fatal crash happened around 12:30 p.m., September 1, on State Highway 136 near Stinnett.

DPS said Edwin McNamara, 73, of Davis, Oklahoma, was riding a 2019 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on the highway when he stopped on the improved shoulder. Joyce Vanderburg, 69, of Spearman, was driving a 2016 Toyota RAV4 SUV southbound approaching the motorcycle. 

McNamara failed to yield right of way and turned left into the southbound lane, directly into the path of the SUV. The SUV then struck the motorcycle on the left side.

McNamara was taken to Golden Plains Community Hospital in Borger with life-threatening injuries, where he later died. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Vanderburg was taken to Golden Plains Community Hospital in Borger with non-life-threatening injuries. She was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The weather conditions were dry and clear at the time of the crash.

The Texas Highway Patrol Troopers are investigating the crash.
