Eli Fowler Killed in Denton Two-Vehicle Crash at East Sherman and FM 2153

Denton, Texas (May 20, 2021) – Two men were killed, and another was injured Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Denton, according to the police.

The fatal crash happened around 10:53 a.m., May 18, at the intersection of East Sherman and FM 2153.

Police said two vehicles were involved in the collision.

Two men in one of the vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene. They have been identified as Luke Masakazu Carter, 18, of Utah, and Eli Jon Fowler, 20, of Colorado.

Both Carter and Fowler were missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were assigned to the Texas Fort Worth Mission and began their service in 2020, according to church officials.

Another man in the other vehicle was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The crash closed all lanes on East Sherman Drive from Warschun Road to FM 2153 for several hours. The lanes were reopened around 2:45 p.m.

Officers said weather might have been a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
