Enrique Gonzalez Killed, Four Injured in Hardin County Two-Vehicle Crash on FM 1293 at FM 1003 near Honey Island
Hardin County, Texas (January 22, 2020) – A man was killed, and four other people were injured in a two-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning in Hardin County near Honey Island, according to the DPS.
The fatal crash was reported around 7:15 a.m., January 21, at the intersection of FM 1293 and FM 1003 South.
DPS said a 2009 GMC SUV was heading westbound on FM 1293 while a 2005 Ford pickup truck was traveling eastbound on FM 1293.
The driver of the SUV attempted to make a left turn onto FM 1003 South and turned in front of the Ford. The Ford struck the passenger-side of the SUV.
The force of the impact caused the SUV to spin counter-clockwise, ejecting Enrique Gonzalez, 48, of Kountze, who was a passenger in the vehicle. The Ford traveled off the roadway and came to rest in a ditch.
Gonzalez was taken to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries where he later died.
The SUV driver was taken to St. Elizabeth with serious injuries.
A 32-year-old woman in the Ford and her 10-year-old son were taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Another passenger in the Ford, a 13-year-old, was airlifted to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston with serious injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
