Eric Eitel Killed, Darrell Lewis Injured in Head-On Crash on SH 155 in Smith County

Eric Eitel Killed and Darrell Lewis Injured in Smith County Two-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 155

Smith County, Texas (September 27, 2022) – One person was killed, and another was injured on Saturday in a two-vehicle crash in Smith County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 2:30 a.m., September 24, on State Highway 155, just north of Winona.

DPS said a Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling southbound on the highway when it crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a northbound Nissan 370Z.

The Nissan driver, Eric C. Eitel, 53, of Big Sandy, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Chevrolet driver, Darrell T. Lewis, 21, of Tyler, was taken to Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center with incapacitating injuries.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
