Ernesto Sanchez Killed in Alton Two-Vehicle Crash on Moorefield Road near FM 681

Alton, Texas (September 25, 2022) – One person was killed early Saturday morning in a two-vehicle crash north of Alton, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 12:03 a.m., September 24, on Moorefield Road south of Farm-to-Market Road 681.

DPS said a gray Mazda 6 was heading northbound when it collided with a southbound blue GMC Sierra.

A passenger in the Mazda, Ernesto Gomez Sanchez, 65, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The driver and passenger of the Sierra were taken to a local hospital with non-incapacitating injuries, where they were treated and released.

The Mazda driver, Walter Enrique Martinez, 42, was taken to the hospital, where he was treated and released. He was then taken to Hidalgo County Jail, where he was charged with intoxication, manslaughter, and intoxication assault.

The DPS troopers are investigating the crash.
