Hortensia Almaras Killed in Odessa Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 191

Odessa, Texas (July 8, 2022) – One person was killed Thursday evening in a rear-end collision in Odessa, according to the authorities.

The fatal crash happened around 6:07 p.m., July 7, in the 12800 block of E Highway 191.

Authorities said a beige 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche failed to control its speed and rear-ended a 2003 Mercedes that was traveling eastbound in the inside lane.

Both vehicles left the roadway and hit the retaining barrier after the collision.

The Mercedes driver, Hortensia Almaras, 42, of Midland, was taken to Medical Center Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The passenger in the Mercedes, 90-year-old Louise Munoz of Midland, was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The Avalanche driver was only identified as a Midlander.

The crash remains under investigation.
