Amarillo, Texas (June 6, 2022) – Two people were killed, and another was injured Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Amarillo, according to the police.

The fatal crash happened around 3:36 p.m., June 5, at the intersection of Soncy and Buccola.

Police said a Dodge Durango was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed on Soncy while a Ford Taurus was traveling northbound on Soncy and was turning westbound onto Buccola.

The Durango struck the right passenger side of the Taurus, causing the Durango to roll over. Both vehicles ended up in a drainage ditch.

Two passengers in the Ford, 75-year-old Janise Hancock, and 72-year-old Thomas Hancock, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Dodge driver, 21-year-old Sebastian Macias, was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Speed was a factor in the crash.

The police are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
