Jay Arthur Jr., Seriously Injured in Johnson County Motorcycle Crash at Lost Pine Drive and Wildwood Drive

Johnson County, Texas (June 4, 2020) – A motorcyclist was seriously injured after being struck by a trash truck Monday afternoon in Chandler, according to the Texas DPS.

The accident occurred around 2:00 p.m. on June 1, at the intersection of Lost Pine Drive and Wildwood Drive.

DPS said a white 2004 Freightliner trash truck was heading northbound on Lost Pine Drive when it stopped at the intersection but failed to yield the right of way to a red 2014 Honda Vt750 motorcycle that was heading eastbound on Wildwood Drive, resulting in a collision.

The impact caused the motorcycle to fall onto the rider, and the truck came to a stop partially on the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, 29-year-old Jay Arthur Jr., of Chandler, was airlifted to UT Health Hospital with serious injuries.

The trash truck driver, William Veasey, 54, of Tyler, and passengers 60-year-old Craig O’Neal, of Tyler, and a 9-year-old also from Tyler, were uninjured in the crash.

The DPS is investigating the crash.

We wish Jay Arthur Jr., a quick recovery.

Most motorcycle crashes are caused by negligent drivers who don’t keep a proper lookout or fail to yield the right-of-way. Because motorcyclists are vulnerable, their injuries are usually severe, often suffering from road rash, broken bones, brain injuries, amputations, or spinal cord injuries.
