Jesse Gomez Jr. Killed in Austin Pedestrian Accident on SH 71

Austin, Texas (December 23, 2020) – The person who was killed Friday morning in a pedestrian accident in southeast Austin near Austin-Bergstrom International Airport has been identified as 35-year-old Jesse Gomez, Jr., according to police.

The deadly accident happened around 6:10 a.m., December 18, in the 3100 block of E. SH 71 eastbound near FM 973.

Police said Gomez was walking in the street towards cars, causing drivers to swerve to avoid him.

The driver of a Ford Expedition saw the cars in the middle lane ahead of him, swerved to the left, took action and moved right and struck Gomez in the roadway.

Gomez was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Expedition driver remained at the scene after the accident.
