Joe Ruiz Killed in Crash on FM 1788 in Midland

Joe Ruiz identified as Midland Man Killed in Rear-end Traffic Collision on FM 1788 near Interstate-20

Midland, Texas (November 20, 2023) – The man who was killed in a collision in Midland Friday morning has been identified as Joe Ruiz, 41, of Midland, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The wreck took place on Friday, November 17, on FM 1788 nearly one mile south of Interstate 20.

Authorities said Ruiz was driving a Ford van when he lost control and crashed into the rear of a GMC Sierra flatbed that was being driven by a 42-year-old McCamey man.

Ruiz was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The other driver was not hurt.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
