Galveston, Texas (August 15, 2022) – According to the police, a man was killed Sunday evening in a scooter crash in Galveston.

The deadly accident happened around 7:10 p.m., August 14, near the intersection of Avenue U and 53rd Street.

Police said John David Bell, 49, of Galveston, was riding a blue scooter westbound on Avenue U and was stopped at a stop sign. A black Chevy Silverado was traveling southbound on 53rd Street and was also stopped at a stop sign.

Bell pulled into the intersection, and a black Nissan Altima, which was traveling northbound on 53rd Street, ran the stop sign and hit the scooter.

Bell was ejected from the scooter, and he landed on the windshield of the Chevy. He was taken to a University of Texas Medical Branch hospital, where he later died.

An 88-year-old man in the Chevy was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Altima driver, Yordany Ferrer, 35, of Houston, has been charged with intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle in connection to the death.

The police are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, scooter, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
