Johnny Rodriguez Jr., Killed in San Antonio 18-Wheeler Crash on Interstate 10 near De Zavala Road

San Antonio, Texas (April 16, 2022) – The 55-year-old man who was killed on Wednesday in an 18-wheeler crash in San Antonio has been identified as Johnny Rodriguez Jr., of Boerne, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The fatal crash happened on the afternoon of April 13, in the 11900 block of Interstate 10 near De Zavala Road.

Police said an 18-wheeler gravel hauler was traveling northbound on the interstate when it had a blowout, causing it to swerve to the left and hit a Toyota Corolla driven by Rodriguez.

The force of the impact caused the Corolla to hit a concrete barrier in the median. It then traveled on top of the barrier until it hit a metal pillar and burst into flames.

The 18-wheeler also struck a Jeep Latitude.

Rodriguez was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

The Jeep driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The police are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
