25-Year-Old Jonathan Husky Killed in Rice Motorcycle Accident on Interstate 45

Rice, Texas (May 22, 2020) – A motorcyclist was killed in a multi-vehicle crash Thursday morning in Rice, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The fatal crash happened around 6:55 a.m. May 21, on Interstate Highway 45, near the 242 exit for Calhoun Street.

DPS said a maroon Freightliner truck tractor towing a silver East flatbed semi-trailer was traveling southbound in the right lane. A blue 2019 Yamaha R3 motorcycle ridden by Jonathan Husky, 25, of Corsicana, was heading southbound behind the Freightliner.

A black 2008 Kia Optima was also traveling southbound in the middle lane behind the Freightliner and the motorcycle.

Husky attempted to pass the Freightliner but ended up rear-ending the East semi-trailer.

Husky was ejected and was struck by the Kia. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Freightliner driver, 35-year-old Brian Tucker of Benbrook, and the Kia driver, 25-year-old Mackenzie Warrens of Houston, were uninjured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Jonathan Husky.

Most motorcycle crashes are caused by negligent drivers who don’t keep a proper lookout or fail to yield the right-of-way. Because motorcyclists are vulnerable, their injuries are usually severe, often suffering from road rash, broken bones, brain injuries, amputations, or spinal cord injuries. In some cases the accident results in death.
