Jose Astrain Jr. Killed in San Antonio Two-Vehicle Crash on West Avenue

San Antonio, Texas (May 3, 2021) – A man was killed Saturday night after crashing into another vehicle while fleeing from police in San Antonio, according to the police.

The deadly crash occurred around 10:50 p.m., May 1, on West Avenue.

Police said Jose Ascencion Astrain Jr., 25, was driving a Ford Fusion northbound when police officers in an unmarked patrol car tried to stop him for an unspecified traffic violation, but he refused to stop and sped away at a high rate of speed.

The officers turned off their emergency lights and didn’t pursue Astrain.

Astrain lost control of his vehicle, fishtailed into oncoming traffic, and crashed into a pickup.

Astrain was taken to University Hospital, where he later died. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The police are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
