Reeves County, Texas – Two people were killed and another was critically injured Thursday night in a head-on collision in Reeves County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 8:15 p.m., April 4, on State Highway 17, about two miles south of Interstate 20.

DPS said a Ford F-150 was traveling northbound on the highway and was attempting to pass a semi-truck when it failed to pass to the left safely and crashed head-on into a southbound GMC Sierra.

The Sierra driver, 22-year-old Juan Elisandro Lopez, of Rio Grande City, and a passenger, 40-year-old Luis Carlos Zamora, also of Rio Grande City, were both pronounced dead at the scene. Zamora was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Archuleta was taken to a Lubbock hospital in critical condition.

The DPS troopers are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
