Julian Wallace Jr. and Marcellus Stripling Injured in San Augustine Two-Vehicle Crash on U.S. Highway 96

San Augustine, Texas (June 25, 2020) – Two people were injured Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle crash involving a big rig, southwest of San Augustine, according to a local news source.

The crash occurred shortly before noon, June 23, on U.S. Highway 96, just south of State Highway 147.

DPS said Julian Wallace, Jr., 36, of Palestine, was driving a 2018 Peterbilt truck, which was transporting water, northbound on the highway when he went off of the highway to the right and then overcorrected back to the left. The big rig crossed into the southbound lane where it crashed head-on into a southbound 1992 Ford F-600 truck driven by Marcellus Stripling, 69, of Garrison.

The force of the impact caused both vehicles to overturn.

Wallace was taken to CHI St. Luke’s Hospital in Lufkin with unknown injuries. Stripling was taken to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital in an unknown condition.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
