Karl Oney Killed in Panola County Pedestrian Accident on US 59 near Carthage

Panola County, Texas (February 11, 2022) – A man was killed Wednesday night in a pedestrian accident in Panola County, according to the Texas DPS.

The deadly accident occurred just before 9:30 p.m., February 9, on US-59 about four miles south of Carthage.

DPS said 78-year-old Karl T. Oney was attempting to walk across an unlit area of the highway when he was struck by a southbound 2019 Dodge Journey driven by Joshua D. Denmon.

Oney was pronounced dead at the scene.

Denmon and his two passengers, Heather Lawrence, and a 1.5-year-old, were taken to the East Texas Medical Center in stable condition. They were all wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
