Kristine Renae Valderas and Britney Justine Cavazos Killed in Progreso Two-Vehicle Crash on U.S. 281 Military Road near FM 88

Progreso, Texas (February 5, 2020) – Two women were killed in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday evening near Progreso, according to the DPS.

The fatal crash occurred at about 6:45 p.m. February 4, on U.S. 281 Military Road west of FM 88.

DPS said Kristine Renae Valderas, 26, and Britney Justine Cavazos, 30, both of McAllen, were traveling westbound on the highway in a Honda Accord, behind a Kenworth truck tractor.

The Honda driver, Cavazos, lost control of the vehicle and rear-ended the tractor-trailer.

Valderas was declared dead at the scene.

Cavazos was airlifted to McAllen Medical Center, where she later died.

The driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured in the crash.

The state troopers are investigating the crash.
