Leah Daniels Killed in Plano Hit-and-Run Crash on US-75 at Legacy Drive; Richard Crockett Arrested

Plano, Texas (March 15, 2023) – A woman was killed Monday night in a hit-and-run accident in Plano, according to the police.

The fatal crash happened around 9:30 p.m., March 13, on southbound US-75 at Legacy Drive.

Police said a stalled vehicle with its hazard lights flashing was stopped in the third lane of US-75 when it was rear-ended by another vehicle, which was unable to stop in time.

The driver of the stalled vehicle, 29-year-old Leah Daniels, got out of the passenger side and was struck by a passing semi-truck, pushing her into oncoming traffic.

The semi-truck driver did not stop and continued heading southbound on the highway.

Daniels was struck by another vehicle as she lay on the road and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The semi-truck driver, 55-year-old Richard Crockett, Jr., of Sherman, was later arrested and charged with failing to stop after an accident involving a death. He was being held at the Collin County Detention Center.

The police are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
