Lee Simmons, 32, Killed After Tire Falls off Tractor-Trailer and Slammed into His Vehicle on Interstate 45

Louetta, Texas (August 10, 2022) – A 32-year-old man died late Thursday, August 4, 2022, after a tire that fell off a tractor-trailer crashed into his vehicle on North Freeway near Louetta, according to Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say the driver of the tractor-trailer was traveling southbound in the 20500 block of the North Freeway when the two tires on the left side middle tandem axle came off the truck. The tires rolled uncontrollably in the main lanes of the North Freeway. One of the wheels bounced over the center divider into the northbound lanes where it struck the windshield of a vehicle hitting the driver and sheering off the roof of the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, Lee Simmons, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. An 11-year-old passenger in the rear seat sustained minor injuries.

According to the deputies, the second tire veered into the service lane and struck a vehicle but the driver of the second vehicle was not injured.

The incident remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A.
