Leroy Smith Injured in Lufkin Two-Vehicle Crash on US 69

Lufkin, Texas (September 15, 2023) – One person was injured Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in Lufkin, according to the Texas DPS.

The crash happened around 4:00 p.m., September 14, on US Highway 69.

DPS said Leroy Smith, 55, of Lufkin, was driving a Chevrolet northbound and was being followed by a Dodge pickup driven by an unidentified 16-year-old male.

The Dodge driver failed to control his speed and rear-ended the Chevrolet when it began to slow for the approaching red light.

Smith was taken to St. Luke’s with non-life-threatening injuries.

The teenager was uninjured in the crash.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
