Lisa Bick Seriously Injured in Ellis County Bicycle Crash on State Highway 34

Ellis County, Texas (June 20, 2021) – A woman was seriously injured Saturday morning in a bicycle crash in Ellis County, according to the DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 8:04 a.m., June 19 on State Highway 34, about three miles east of Italy.

DPS said Lisa Bick, 61, of Waxahachie, and Thomas Bick, 53, of Waxahachie, were riding their bicyclists eastbound on the highway while a 1993 white and black dump truck was also traveling eastbound behind the bicyclists.

The driver of the CMV was blinded by the rising sun and didn’t see the bicyclists. The driver swerved to the left but still struck both bicyclists.

Lisa was ejected onto the roadway while Thomas was ejected onto the right bar ditch.

Lisa was taken to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Waxahachie with serious injuries.

Thomas was uninjured in the crash.

The troopers are investigating the crash.

With the surge in popularity of alternate transportation to save on fuel costs, bicycling has emerged as a new form of mobility forced to compete with motorized traffic in dangerous situations. This has resulted in many more accidents between human-powered vehicles and powerful engine-driven machines, producing tragic injuries as well as countless fatalities.
