1 Killed and 1 Injured in Conroe Crash on I-45

Conroe, Texas (June 19, 2019) – A man was killed and another was injured in an alleged DUI crash early Wednesday morning near Conroe, according to a local news release.

The fatal crash occurred just after midnight, on I-45 at the exit for Highway 242 westbound.

Police said a man was driving a Toyota pickup truck when he tried to take the exit and he hit the barrels near the concrete barrier, causing the vehicle to flip and slide before coming to a stop about 100 feet up the exit ramp. The driver was climbing out of the truck when the driver of another Toyota pickup took the same exit and hit him as he was trying to climb out. The impact pinned the man under both trucks.

Responding firefighters took over two hours attempting to extricate the man from the wreckage. He was declared dead at the scene.

The driver of the second truck was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Authorities said alcohol was a factor in the crash. The second driver is expected to face an intoxication manslaughter charge.

The crash remains under investigation.
