Athens, Texas (August 28, 2020) – A 75-year-old man was killed in a three-vehicle crash Friday afternoon north of Athens, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash happened at about 4:40 p.m., August 27, on SH 19 near Grand View Drive.

DPS said the man was driving a 2007 Dodge Nitro and was stopped on the highway facing northbound, waiting to turn westbound on Grand View Drive.

The Nitro driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The drivers of the Ford and the Dodge were taken to UT Health Athens with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
