Maria Guadalupe Zamora, Reynaldo Alvarado Jr and Ariel Castillo Killed in Cameron County Two-Vehicle Crash on FM 803 and St. Francis Avenue

Cameron County, Texas (September 4, 2020) – Three people were killed in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon in rural Cameron County, according to officials.

The fatal crash happened around 1:58 p.m., September 2, at the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 803 and St. Francis Avenue.

According to a preliminary investigation, a woman was driving a Black GMC Yukon northbound on FM 803 while a Gray Dodge Magnum driven by Maria Guadalupe Zamora, 49, was heading southbound.

The left rear tire of the GMC blew out, causing the driver to lose control and veer into the southbound lane where she crashed head-on into the Dodge.

Zamora was pronounced dead at the scene. Her two grandchildren, Ariel Castillo, 2, and Reynaldo Alvarado Jr, 6, were taken to local hospitals where they later died.

The three other passengers in the Dodge were taken to local hospitals in stable condition.

Officers said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Maria Guadalupe Zamora, Reynaldo Alvarado Jr, and Ariel Castillo.
