47-Year-Old Maria Rojas Killed in Navarro County Two-Vehicle Crash on FM 1126

Navarro County, Texas (May 19, 2020) – A woman was killed, and a 15-year-old was arrested Saturday morning following a suspected DUI crash in Navarro County, according to a local news source.

The fatal crash happened around 8:50 a.m. May 16, on FM 1126, west of FM 1839.

According to a preliminary investigation, the 15-year-old was driving a red 2003 Chevrolet 1500 pickup eastbound on FM 1126. A purple 1999 Honda Accord, driven by 47-year-old Maria Rojas, of Corsicana, was pulling out of a private driveway, heading eastbound on FM 1126.

The 15-year-old failed to control their speed and rear-ended the Honda. The impact caused both vehicles to go off the roadway into a ditch.

Rojas was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Chevrolet driver was uninjured in the crash. They were taken to Gregg County Juvenile Detention Center and was charged with intoxication manslaughter.

The crash remains under investigation.

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Maria Rojas.

In Texas, a driver is legally intoxicated after consuming alcohol if their blood alcohol content (BAC) is .08% or higher. A driver is also considered intoxicated if they don’t have the normal use of their mental or physical faculties by reason of the introduction of alcohol. Alcohol, however, is not the only intoxicant, as drivers can become intoxicated by ingesting prescription and illegal drugs such as crack, marijuana, and cocaine.

Regardless of what substance caused the driver’s reaction time to become significantly altered, intoxication by any means can cause terrible accidents and injuries.

Innocent victims harmed by drunk drivers are entitled to compensation for their injuries, including but not limited to medical expenses; lost wages; pain and suffering and mental anguish; physical impairment and disability; and most importantly, punitive damages to deter future conduct. If a death occurred because of a drunk driver, you will want a knowledgeable accident lawyer to bring a wrongful death action against the drunk driver.
