Mary Cooper, Janet Carter and Koolasha Green ID’d as 3 of 4 Victims Killed in Powderly Crash on FM 2648 and U.S. 271

Powderly, Texas (July 26, 2023) – Three of the four people who died in a collision between a semi-truck and a SUV on Friday morning in Powderly have been identified as Mary K Cooper, Janet K Carter, Koolasha U Green, all of Hugo, Oklahoma.

The fatal crash happened at around 10:55 a.m. Friday, July 21 at the intersection of FM 2648 and U.S. 271, 2 miles south of Powderly.

Authorities said Clarence Fowler of Valiant, Oklahoma, was driving a 2000 Peterbilt hauling a trailer westbound on FM 2648 when he failed to yield to a 2013 Toyota Highlander that was traveling southbound on U.S. 271.

The Highlander which had the right of way at the intersection went under the trailer.

The driver of the Highlander, Mary Cooper, and her passengers, Carter, Green and 16-year-old boy, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Fowler did not suffer any injuries.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash.
