Matthew James Almasi ID’d as Man Killed in North Austin Motorcycle Accident on Burnet Road

Austin, Texas (November 22, 2019) – The man who was killed Monday night in a motorcycle accident in North Austin has been identified as Matthew James Almasi, 26, according to the police.

The accident occurred around 7:00 p.m. on November 18, in the 5800 block of Burnet Road.

Police said Almasi was riding a blue 2009 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle at a high rate of speed when a Honda Odyssey minivan, which was traveling southbound in the inside lane, attempted to make a left-hand turn and the two vehicles collided.

The impact ejected Almasi from the motorcycle. He was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center with critical, life-threatening injuries where he later died. He was not wearing a helmet or other protective gear at the time of the crash.

The minivan driver was uninjured in the crash. He was cited for failing to yield right of way. The passenger in the van was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

An investigation is underway.
