San Antonio, Texas (August 28, 2022) – According to the police, a woman was arrested on Saturday following a hit-and-run that left a man dead earlier this year in San Antonio.

29-year-old Mercedes Deane Haines was arrested and charged with failure to stop and render aid – death.

The deadly accident happened on January 23, at the intersection of Southcross Boulevard and Interstate 35.

Police said Mariano G. Lugo, 30, was riding his motorcycle westbound on Southcross Blvd when he ran a red light at the intersection and crashed into the driver’s side of a Honda Accord. He was ejected and landed on the roadway.

The occupants of the Honda fled the scene on foot.

Lugo was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

The Honda driver, Haines, was arrested on Saturday, August 27, and was being held in the Bexar County Jail on a $40,000 bond.

The police are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
