Michael Wayne Scales Killed in Mitchell County Two-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 20 Service Road

Mitchell County, Texas (November 16, 2019) – A man was killed in a two-vehicle crash Friday morning in Mitchell County, two miles west of Colorado City, according to the DPS.

The fatal crash took place on Friday, November 15, on Interstate 20 service road.

DPS said Michael Wayne Scales, 62, of Colorado City, was driving a 2019 Ford pickup truck westbound on the south service road of Interstate 20 approaching a yield sign and eastbound on-ramp to I-20.

Robert Bruce Gonzales, 24, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet pickup eastbound on the service road and he attempted to enter the interstate, using the on-ramp when it was struck by the Ford pickup truck.

Scales was declared dead at the scene.

Gonzales was taken to Mitchell County Hospital with serious injuries.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
