Officer Abel Garza Injured in Austin Motorcycle Accident on I-35

 Austin, Texas (September 2, 2019) – A police officer was injured Sunday morning in an alleged DUI crash in central Austin, according to the authorities.

The crash occurred just after midnight, in the 4400 block of southbound I-35.

Officials said officers had the emergency lights of their motorcycle units activated while they blocked lanes of traffic and workers were moving barricades from the road when a dark-colored vehicle crashed into the back of one of the bikes.

The driver of the vehicle didn’t stop.

Officer Abel Garza sustained injuries in the crash.

Jose Hernandez Garcia was later arrested and was charged with failure to stop and render aid.

The crash remains under investigation.
