Police Officer Injured in Houston Car Crash on US 290(Northwest Freeway)

Houston, Texas (December 11, 2020) – A METRO police officer was injured in a traffic accident early Friday morning in Houston, according to police.

The crash happened just before 1:00 a.m. on US-290 (the Northwest Freeway) near Barker Cypress and Skinner Roads.

Police said the officer had arrived at the scene of an earlier crash and was diverting traffic in the westbound lanes of the freeway when another car crashed into the METRO police cruiser.

The officer was taken to a local hospital where they were treated and released.

The driver who crashed into the police cruiser was under the influence at the time of the crash and is facing DWI charges.

The crash closed the freeway for several hours.

The crash remains under investigation.
