Wayne Slater Killed in Williamson County Two-Vehicle Crash at FM 487 and Chris Lane

Florence, Texas (December 22, 2021) – A retired Dallas Morning News Austin bureau chief and senior political writer was killed Monday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Williamson County, according to the authorities.

The fatal crash happened around 10:33 a.m., December 20, in the area of FM 487 and Chris Lane near Florence.

Authorities said Wayne Slater, 74, of Florence, was driving a Mazda CX-3 subcompact SUV when he swerved into oncoming traffic and collided with an F-150 pickup truck.

Slater was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

No further details regarding the crash were provided.

The authorities are investigating the crash.
