Officer Injured in End-of-Pursuit on Expressway 83 in Penitas

Police Officer Hospitalized after Penitas Crash on Expressway 83 and Main Street

Penitas, Texas (January 18, 2023) – A police officer with La Joya Police Department was injured after a chase ended in a crash Monday afternoon in Penitas, according to authorities.

The crash occurred on Expressway 83 and Main Street on Monday, January 16.

Authorities said the officer was trying to conduct a traffic stop on a blue Ford Expedition, but the driver declined and a pursuit began. The Expedition was reported stolen from a nearby city.

The chase ended after the patrol vehicle crashed into another vehicle on Expressway 83 and Main Street. The driver of the Expedition fled eastbound on the expressway.

The officer was transported to a local hospital.

The Texas Department of Public Safety and the La Joya Police Department is investigating the crash.
