Officer Injured in Austin Hit-and-Run Crash at West Rundberg Lane and North Lamar Boulevard; Tomas Avila Montes Arrested

Austin, Texas (February 13, 2020) – A police officer was injured in a hit-and-run crash Wednesday afternoon in Austin, according to the police.

The crash happened around 2:16 p.m. February 12, at the intersection of West Rundberg Lane and North Lamar Boulevard.

Police said two APD officers in their patrol cars were stopped at a red light at the intersection when Tomas Avila Montes, 25, ran the red light and rear-ended one of the patrol cars.

Avila stepped out of his vehicle and began running through a parking lot, and the officers pursued on foot.

Avila attempted to hide under a parked vehicle but was arrested and taken into custody.

The officer who was hit complained of back pain.

Avila’s bond was set at $10,000.

The crash remains under investigation.
