Oscar Garza, Anna Bettancourt Among Several Hurt in Fatal Victoria County Collision on U.S. Highway 59

Victoria County, Texas (July 23, 2019) – Oscar Daniel Garza, 55, of Spring and Anna Lee Bettancourt, 51, were among several people injured in a fatal three-vehicle collision on a highway in Victoria County Saturday morning, according to the authorities.

The wreck, which took place on U.S. Highway 59, five miles northeast of Victoria, occurred at about 10:56 a.m. on Saturday, July 20.

DPS said a semi-truck pulling a flatbed trailer was heading north on Highway 59 when, for unknown reasons, it was rear-ended by a 2016 Ford van carrying 10 passengers.

The impact pushed the van across the grassy median and into the southbound lanes. The Ford van collided head-on with an oncoming 2015 Ford F-250.

The woman driving the van and four passengers, including two children, were pronounced deceased at the scene. Five passengers in the van were taken to Houston and Victoria hospitals with unknown injuries.

Garza and Bettancourt were riding in the Ford pickup. They were both taken to Citizens Medical Center in Victoria and were said to be in stable condition.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
