Ricardo Cuevas Killed in Sherman County Pedestrian Accident on FM 297

Sherman County, Texas (September 2, 2023) – A man was killed early Thursday morning in a pedestrian accident in Sherman County, according to the Texas DPS.

The deadly accident happened around 4:30 a.m., August 31, on FM 297, approximately five miles northwest of Cactus.

DPS said a 2018 Ford Escape was traveling eastbound and was exiting a curve. It was unknowingly approaching a two-vehicle crash in the roadway that had occurred moments earlier. It was dark, and the Ford driver did not see the disabled vehicles on the roadway. He attempted to maneuver between the two vehicles to avoid a collision. Ricardo Pinon Cuevas, of Cactus, was in the roadway between the two crashed vehicles and was struck by the Ford.

Cuevas was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Texas Highway Patrol Troopers are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
