Ricky Boyd Injured in Lufkin Hit-and-Run Crash on Lone Star Road; Carlos Malpica Arrested

Lufkin, Texas (January 2, 2020) – A man was injured in an alleged hit-and-run crash Wednesday evening in Lufkin, according to the DPS.

The accident happened around 6:00 p.m. on January 1, on Lone Star Road.

DPS said Carlos Malpica, 20, of Lufkin was driving a 2002 Chevrolet pickup northbound when he hit Ricky Boyd, 64, of Lufkin, who was riding a horse.

Malpica fled the scene, and a witness notified the deputies. After a brief pursuit with the authorities, Malpica stopped his vehicle at an intersection. He was arrested and taken into custody on charges of intoxication assault and failure to stop and render aid. He also faces other charges from the sheriff’s office.

Boyd was taken to CHI St. Luke’s Health-Memorial for treatment. His horse was uninjured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
