Rita Diaz Injured in Lubbock Two-Vehicle Crash on University Avenue at 47th Street

Lubbock, Texas (April 10, 2022) – A woman was injured Wednesday afternoon in a hit-and-run crash in central Lubbock, according to the police.

Police were called to a bank in the 2500 block of 50th Street around 12:45 p.m., on Thursday for a report of a suspect who was attempting to commit fraud. The suspect fled the scene in a stolen vehicle. He fled eastbound through a parking lot before coming to University Avenue and heading northbound.

The suspect vehicle then crashed into a northbound passenger car driven by 47-year-old Rita Diaz.

The suspect vehicle continued to travel over the center median of University Avenue and into an alley in the 2500 block of 47th Street, where he lost control and crashed into a utility pole and a fence.

The suspect then fled on foot.

Diaz was taken to University Medical Center with minor injuries.

The authorities were unable to locate the suspect. He was described as a Hispanic male.

An investigation is underway. Anyone with any information regarding the identity, or location of the suspect, is asked to call the Lubbock Police Department at (806) 775-2817.
