Ronald Waller Killed in Car Accident on Jed Robinson North Loop 7 in Athens

Ronald Waller ID’d as Man Killed in Athens Crash on Jed Robinson North Loop 7 near U.S. Highway 175

Athens, Texas (June 21, 2019) – The man who was killed Tuesday afternoon in a traffic accident involving two 18-wheelers on the Athens loop has been identified as Ronald Waller, 55 of Carrollton, according to police.

The deadly accident happened at around 3:01 p.m. Tuesday, June 18 in the 1000 block of Jed Robinson North Loop 7 near U.S. Highway 175.

Police said Ronald Waller was driving a 2015 International tractor-trailer rig northeast in the outside lane of Loop 7 when for an undetermined reason, he drove onto the shoulder and hit a 2007 Freightliner tractor-trailer rig.

The International tractor-trailer rig continued traveling northeast for a short distance and then burst into flames.

Waller was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to American Forensics in Mesquite for an autopsy.

Major Wiley, 40, of Grand Prairie, who was the occupant of the Freightliner tractor-trailer rig, was taken to UT Health in Athens with minor injuries.

Authorities are investigating the accident.
