San Juana Sanchez Killed in Harlingen Pedestrian Accident on Ed Carey Drive

San Juana Sanchez ID’d as Pedestrian Killed in Harlingen Crash on Ed Carey Drive and Pease Street

Harlingen, Texas (April 28, 2023) – The woman who died after being struck by a vehicle on Wednesday in front of Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen has been identified as 73-year-old San Juana Benavides Sanchez.

The deadly crash happened around noon Wednesday, April 26, at the intersection of Ed Carey Drive and Pease Street.

Authorities said Sanchez was attempting to cross Ed Carey Drive inside a designated crosswalk when she was hit by a red pickup truck that was making a left-hand turn from Pease Street.

Sanchez was transported to the hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the vehicle stopped and cooperated with police.

The Harlingen Police Department Highway unit is investigating the crash.
