Santos Donez Killed, Officer Wesley Haulk Injured in Crash on South Loop 289 in Lubbock

Santos Donez Killed and Officer Wesley Haulk Injured in Lubbock Two-Vehicle Crash on South Loop 289 near Peoria Avenue

Lubbock, Texas (January 15, 2023) – One person was killed, and an officer was injured early Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Lubbock, according to the police.

The fatal crash happened just after 2:09 a.m., January 12, in the 4300 block of South Loop 289 near Peoria Avenue.

Police said they were initially called to a crash with possible injuries in the eastbound lanes of the highway. Shortly after the first officer arrived, he was rear-ended by a pickup truck while still in his vehicle.

The officer, Wesley Haulk, was taken to University Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The pickup truck driver, Santos Donez Jr., 36, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No injuries were reported in the first crash.

The police are investigating the crash.
