Pearland, Texas (February 10, 2021) – According to authorities, a woman has been charged in connection with the deadly motorcycle crash that left a HCSO sergeant dead in Pearland in January.

Floribeth Sandoval-Benjume has been charged with manslaughter.

The crash was reported around 2:11 p.m., on January 2.

Authorities said Sergeant Bruce Watson, 51, was on his way home after completing a funeral escort when his motorcycle was struck by an SUV driven by Sandoval-Benjume.

Watson was airlifted to Hermann Hospital-Texas Medical Center where he later died. He was a 20-year veteran with the department.

Sandoval-Benjume was arrested and has been charged with manslaughter.

The authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.

Most motorcycle crashes are caused by negligent drivers who don’t keep a proper lookout or fail to yield the right-of-way. Because motorcyclists are vulnerable, their injuries are usually severe, often suffering from road rash, broken bones, brain injuries, amputations, or spinal cord injuries. In some cases the accident results in death.
