Stanley Phillips, Carol Phillips and Terrance Boyd Hospitalized after Mineola Crash on U.S. 80 and FM 1253

Smith County, Texas (January 24, 2023) – Stanley Phillips, 70, of Fort Worth, Carol Phillips, 65, both of Fort Worth, and Terrance Boyd, 23, were injured in a deadly crash on Friday morning, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash occurred at the intersection of U.S. 80 and FM 1253, five miles east of Mineola, on Friday, January 20.

DPS said a vehicle, driven by Howard W. Petrea, 89, of Mineola, was stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of U.S. 80 and FM 1253 while a car, Boyd, was heading eastbound on U.S. 80.

Petrea failed to yield the right of way to Boyd’s vehicle, which caused Terrance Boyd’s vehicle to strike Petrea’s vehicle.

Petrea was pronounced dead at the scene.

Stanley Phillips and Carol Phillips, who were passengers in Petrea’s vehicle, were taken to a Tyler hospital with unspecified injuries. Boyd was also taken to a Tyler hospital in unknown condition.

Further details regarding the collision were immediately provided.

The crash remains under investigation.
