Wanda Jane Lewis Killed in Van Zandt County Two-Vehicle Crash on US 80

Van Zandt County, Texas (January 5, 2021) – Two people were killed in a head-on collision Sunday evening in Van Zandt County, 2.5 miles east of the city of Fruitvale, according to authorities.

The fatal crash happened around 7:50 p.m., January 3, on US 80.

According to a preliminary investigation, a 2021 Hyundai Sonata was traveling eastbound on the highway when it crossed the center stripe and crashed head-on into a westbound 2021 Freightliner truck that was towing a trailer.

The Hyundai driver, Marc Italia, 61, of Dallas, was ejected, and the vehicle came to a stop facing northbound in the westbound lane. The Freightliner came to a stop in the southbound ditch.

Italia and the Freightliner driver, Wanda Jane Lewis, 58, of Dallas, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
