Winfred Wayne Going Killed in Wood County Three-Vehicle Crash on U.S. Highway 69

Wood County, Texas (November 4, 2020) – One person was killed in a three-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon in Wood County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 2:55 p.m., November 3, on U.S. Highway 69, just southeast of Alba.

DPS said a 2012 GMC 2500 was traveling southeast and was approaching traffic that was stopped due to an active construction zone.

The GMC driver failed to control his speed and hit the trailer being towed by a 2016 Peterbilt truck tractor. The force of the impact caused the Peterbilt to rear-end a 2016 Ford F-150.

The GMC driver, Winfred Wayne Going, 65, of Mineola, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Peterbilt driver, Kerry Durrell Taylor, 34, of McComb, Mississippi, and the Ford driver, Brian Edward Harris, 61, of Mineola, were uninjured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Winfred Wayne Going.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons for driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
