Asanberg Asongwe ID’d as Man Killed in Arlington Crash on State Highway 360 near Mayfield Road

Arlington, Texas (February 4, 2023) – The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the man who died in a traffic accident Thursday night in Arlington as Asanberg Clement Asongwe, 64, of Grand Prairie.

The deadly crash happened shortly after 11:30 p.m. Thursday, February 2, on the southbound side of State Highway 360 near Mayfield Road.

Authorities said Asongwe was driving a 2019 Toyota 4Runner southbound on State Highway 360 when, for an unknown reason, he stopped in the far right lane and got out of his SUV.  At the same time, a 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage traveling southbound in the far right lane of State Highway 360 was coming over a hill.

The driver of the Mirage saw the 4Runner stopped in front of him, he tried to brake and avoid the SUV. Due to the slick road conditions, the Mirage slid and sideswiped the 4Runner before hitting Asongwe.

Police responded to the scene and found Asongwe lying unresponsive in the roadway. He was transported to an Arlington hospital, where he was declared dead at 2:21 a.m. Friday, February 3.

The driver of the Mirage stopped immediately and called 911.

Further details regarding the collision were immediately provided.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
