Woman Killed in Galveston Crash on 14th Street and Broadway

Galveston, Texas (September 21, 2023) – A woman was killed in a crash involving a Galveston police officer early Thursday morning in Galveston.

The crash took place on 14th Street and Broadway.

The officer was responding to a call about a man with a gun who was making threats at a drug store when the collision happened. Video from the scene showed the Galveston PD cruiser with front-end damage. The sedan which the woman was driving was smashed. The airbags deployed in both vehicles.

It is still unclear if the officer had their lights and sirens on at the time of the crash.

The woman driving the sedan was transported to a hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. She was a medical laboratory technologist. Her name was being withheld pending notification of family.

The officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The cruiser had in-car cameras and the officer was wearing a body camera.

An investigation into the crash is underway.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
