One Killed and One Injured in Corpus Christi Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 37-North and Carbon Plant Road; Alan Mendoza Arrested

Corpus Christi, Texas (August 21, 2023) – One person was killed, and another was injured early Sunday morning in a wrong-way crash in Corpus Christi, according to the authorities.

The fatal crash happened around 3:30 a.m., August 20, on Highway 37-North and Carbon Plant Road.

Authorities said 25-year-old Alan Mendoza was driving southbound in the northbound lane when he struck another vehicle.

A man in Mendoza’s vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released. Another man in that vehicle was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Mendoza was found to be intoxicated and was arrested for intoxication, manslaughter, intoxication assault, and unlawful carrying of a weapon. He was booked into the Nueces County Jail on a $206-thousand-dollar bond.

The crash remains under investigation.
