One Killed and Three Injured in North Austin Crash on North Lamar Boulevard; Martin Mendez-Jimenez Arrested

Austin, Texas (September 1, 2023) – One person was killed, and three others were injured on Sunday in a DWI crash in North Austin, according to the police.

The fatal crash happened on August 27, in the 9600 block of North Lamar Boulevard.

Police said a two-door car and a sedan were involved in the crash.

The driver of the two-door car tried to leave the scene but was subdued until police arrived.

The sedan driver got out of the vehicle and laid down next to the vehicle while witnesses were working on getting the passenger out of the sedan.

A pedestrian approached to help the sedan driver, but a pick-up truck driven by Martin Mendez-Jimenez hit both the pedestrian and the sedan driver.

The sedan driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pedestrian and the passenger of the sedan were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the two-door car was severely injured and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Mendez-Jimenez fled the scene after the crash but was followed by a witness until DPS could locate him. He was arrested for DWI and Failure to Stop and Render Aid.
